How to Modify Navigation Bar in Easyprint Backend - A Guide

Section 1: Introduction


1.1 Task Overview

  • To make change and/or modify the categories in the Navigation Bar of Easyprint website.


1.2 Objectives

  • To be able to maintain user-friendly and easy access navigation bar in the website.
  • To set-up proper Navigation Bar that will help run the company's website efficiently.

1.3 References and Tools

  • Magento is a our website's backend. This where we upload the product details, it's description, images etc.

  • Easyprint Website - This is our main website where we can check all the products that were uploaded.




Section 2: Navigate and Set-Up Magento Navigation Menu [Easyprint Backend]


2.1 Log-in into Magento

  • Go to Admin Sidebar, click on Catalog, there a slide window will show containing Products and Category (this is where we create desired categories that we want to show in our website page)


2.2 Create a Category

  • Once on the Categories page, click on "Add Root Category" to add your desired primary/main category [i.e. Corporate Gifts, Business Stationery, Large Format Print, Trending Items, etc.] and "Add Subcategory" for items you'd want under the primary categories [Corporate Gifts -- Kitchenware, Drinkwares, Travel & Lifestyle etc.]


  • You can drag and drop your newly created Category to desired position. For this example, the desired categories that should be visible must be in this order: Corporate Gifts, Business Stationery, Large Format Print and Trending Items. (Note: You can always go to the website front end - https://www.easyprintsg.com/ --- to always check if your desired positioning has been achieved.

  • Always click "Save" when you have achieved your desired changes.

  • Confirm the changes by always checking the front end of the website.



Section 3: Setting the Depth of the Top Navigation Menu


2.1 Admin Sidebar

  • Go to Admin Sidebar, click on "Stores", choose "Configuration" under Settings. This is where you can re-arrange the categories based on the your desired position and how they will appear and be visible on the website.


  • On the Configuration Window, look for "Catalog" and expand; choose the first item under it which is "Catalog" to open and manage its settings (exactly the same as shown below)

  • See "Category Top Navigation" from the list of configuration items, click the arrow in order to expand.
  • The depth of the Top Navigation determines how many subcategories will be visible under it. 


  • The maximum depth default value is 0, meaning there are no restrictions as to how many subcategories can be added to the Top Navigation Menu Category. (To visualize, see the image below, as you can there are a variety of subcategories under Corporate Gifts since there were no restriction set for this certain Primary Category)
  • Always click "Save" when you have achieved your desired changes.
